Merchantrade targets 30% share of remittance service

KUALA LUMPUR: Mobile virtual network operator Merchantrade Sdn Bhd targets to increase its market share in remittance service to 30% in three years with the launch of Doowit, a mobile remittance service.

The service, which was launched on Monday, was supported by Celcom Axiata Bhd, will see 700 Doowit centres set up within the next 24 months.

"Doowit offers remittance payouts to nine countries namely Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines and Sri Lanka," said Merchantrade managing director Ramasamy Veeran.

The service is available to Merchantrade's 300,000 prepaid mobile service subscribers.
