MAHB passenger traffic up
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) passenger volume at its airports grew 2.7% in June compared with the same month last year.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, MAHB said international passenger movements at KL International Airport (KLIA) rose 4% to 2.34 million while at the domestic level, it increased 1.3% to 1.04 million.
“The overall increase in international passengers was contributed by a 12.4% rise in foreign airline movements and 8.7% growth in AirAsia Group’s movements,” it said.
It added that for January-June this year, its airports recorded 32.56 million passenger movements, up 4.2% from the same period last year.
MAHB said new airlines that commenced operations during the period such as Mandala Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Airphil Express and AirAsia Philippines had also contributed to the growth of international passengers at KLIA and low-cost carrier terminal.
In line with the lacklustre world economic performance, MAHB said cargo movements continued to remain in the negative. “Overall cargo movements declined by 0.5% to 435.501 million kg,” it said. — Bernama
