M’sian firms generate RM330mil sales at US trade fair


KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian companies participated at the SEMICON West 2012 in the United States generated a total sales of RM333.78mil from last year's sales of RM22mil.

In a statement, Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) said SEMICON West was the flagship event for microelectronics manufacturing and semiconductor industries.

The three day event at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco, California saw the participation of more than 500 exhibiting companies from around the world and over 20,000 decision-makers.

Matrade said the Malaysia's pavilion saw participation from a number of companies featuring products which included precision machined parts and components, test probes, test contactor solutions, and automatic test equipment and test and measurement instrument used in the design & manufacturing of semiconductors.

The Malaysian companies were also able to meet up with representatives from major industry players including Intel, Apple, Altera, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Marvell Technology, Micrel, Jabil Circuit, Fairchild Semiconductor, Hitachi, JDS Uniphase, Skyworks Solutions, Microsemi and Linear Technology.

A large number of small and medium-sized companies also took the time to meet with the Malaysian participants.

“Matrade also indicated that worldwide spending on semiconductor fabrication equipment for 2012 was expected to reach RM124.12bil while In 2013, this is expected to exceed RM145.42bil, an all-time record high for fabrication equipment spending and 17% more than the 2012 forecast.”
