Rolls-Royce to provide total service for MAS' A380 Trent engines

KUALA LUMPUR: Rolls-Royce has extended its total care services support to Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) Trent 900 engines for use in MAS' six Airbus A380 aircraft.

Both companies signed an MoU at the Farnborough International Airshow on Monday for the provision of the service. It currently provides such services for MAS's Trent 800 engines used in the 17 Boeing 777 aircraft.

MAS group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the total care service was a risk transfer programme that would alleviate the burden of engine maintenance and provide significant financial savings.

MAS's first Airbus A380 entered into service on July 1. The aircraft enables a non-stop service from Kuala Lumpur to any destination in Europe.

The Trent 900 is currently in service with five airlines and powered the first Airbus A380 to enter service, in 2007.
