Bosch seeks higher sales of security systems with new products
By SHANNEN WONG
PETALING JAYA: Robert Bosch Sdn Bhd aims to lift sales for its security systems segment by 3% this year.
It will achieve this by introducing new products in segments such as access-control devices, closed-circuit television (CCTV) and professional audio equipment.
Sivakumar K. Pichai (left) and Robert Bosch sales manager of security systems and access Jerry Lee at the launch “We would be happy to at least grow 3% of our sales for the security systems segment this year compared with last year,” general manager Sivakumar K. Pichai told StarBizWeek after the launch of a new access-control device recently.
With the new web-based solution, Bosch hoped to capture 5% of the local door access-control market by 2010, he said, noting that the Malaysian market was estimated to be worth RM60mil per annum.
On the outlook for the security systems market, he said: “It will continue to grow and the group will carry on with new technology acquisitions through research and development as well as company buys.”
According to Sivakumar, Bosch currently controls 10% of the security systems market in Malaysia.
Sales of security systems to the private sector had been “stagnant” this year as companies cut back on expenses amid the economic slowdown, he said.
However, the decrease in sales to the private sector has been offset by an increase in orders from the public sector.
“The revenue contribution from the Government sector is much higher this year because the Government has pumped in money to support the infrastructure development for street surveillance and defence purposes,” Sivakumar said.
“We are currently working with the Government for security systems projects in prisons, court rooms and hospitals.
“Nonetheless, we need to balance that out. We are looking to supply more security systems equipment to the commercial and retail centres in the future,” he added.
Bosch is looking to launch new speakers and sound-mixing systems for its professional audio segment, as well as new CCTV products.
“We will also launch a new product for our CCTV camera range around September-October period,” he said, noting that the CCTV business remained the biggest contributor to its security systems sales.
