MAHB and JSC agree to terminate pact
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and JSC International Airport Astana have agreed to the mutual termination of the trust management agreement for Astana International Airports, effective yesterday.
In a statement, MAHB said the decision was made mutually as the expertise, knowledge and experience garnered by Astana from working with MAHB had enabled the former to manage and operate the airport independently.
MAHB said that under its two-year management, the second largest international airport in Kazakhstan had significantly improved its performance.
It said the airport’s passenger traffic of 1,316,945 in 2008 was an increase of 12.7% from 2007. Cargo movement recorded 10.34% growth to 5,217 tonnes while aircraft movements grew 2.25% to 21,839 in 2008.
MAHB had also provided assistance in auditing Astana’s financial system and controls in order to determine areas for improvement.
Currently, MAHB’s other overseas ventures comprise the operations and management of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Turkey.
