MAS pushes for more airfare campaigns
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Airlines System Bhd (MAS) is pushing for more airfare promotion campaigns to boost sales as demand slowed for travel due to an economic recession.
Its managing director Datuk Seri Idris Jala said the airline faced tough operating conditions this year and would find it challenging to surpass last year’s results.
He told reporters Monday following the airline’s AGM and EGM that there was a need to package more attractive promotions to boost sales, which has been falling due to the economic slowdown and the H1N1 pandemic.
Idris said the airline’s load factor in the second-quarter had risen to 66% from 56% in the first-quarter helped by the low fare campaigns.
“ We’ll continue to push sales aggressively and we are planning to offer more than 70 travel fairs globally until 2010,” he said.
Meanwhile, chairman Tan Sri Dr Munir Majid said MAS currently had no intention to lay-off its workers.
