Islamic economic forum to host more regional meetings
KUALA LUMPUR: The World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation (WIEF) is looking at hosting regional meetings next year to identify issues of interest among countries.
Its chairman, Tun Musa Hitam said the WIEF is already in talks with some countries and the response so far was encouraging.
"The sub-host countries in each region will be liasing with us. We hope to emphasise more participation in medium industries and by young people," he told reporters after the WIEF Young Leaders Network (WYN) Internship Programme Wednesday.
The global internship programme, the first of its kind in the Muslim world, is designed to identify and nurture young leaders through internship exchanges in reputable corporations across the globe.
Musa said the programme includes an opportunity to experience working life in a different country, to embrace the different cultures in the Muslim world and benefit from professional and leadership skills.
The first batch consisting five students will leave for their internship by the end of this month to Dubai and also in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Musa said the 6th WIEF will be held in Kuala Lumpur, from May 18-20, 2010.
"The event is expected to bring together Head of States and governments, captains of industry and emerging entrepreneurs from the Muslim and non-Muslim world.
"Relevant topics will be discussed, in particular the challenges that concern the Muslim world, in the wake of the current global business climate," he explained. - Bernama
