KLCI marginally down in early trade

KUALA LUMPUR: The KLCI was marginally down in early trade Wednesday, slipping 4.97 points to 1,255.33.
In the region, most Asian stocks fell led by technology companies as Toshiba Corp reported a loss and Canon Inc posted lower earnings.
HwangDBS Vickers Research Sdn Bhd expects trading in the local market today to hover in a tight range, similar to the performance of Wall Street overnight.
OSK Research Sdn Bhd analyst Shin Kao Jack said in a report that at FBM KLCI’s current level, an immediate resistance lies at the 1,275 point-level, followed by the 1,285 point-level.
At 10am, the KLCI was 0.36% lower at 1,255.71, so was Singapore’s Straits Times Index, which fell 0.25% to 2,687.81.
Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 was also lower by 0.66% to 10,144.55, Taipei’s Taiex Index lost 0.4% to 7,626.58 while Seoul’s Kospi Index fell by 1.35% to 1,627.19.
At Bursa Malaysia, 177 counters were up, 180 were down while 165 others were traded unchanged. There were 252.29 million shares done at a total value of RM199.48 million.
Among active stocks, Green Packet advanced 2 sen to RM1.10, Tanjung Offshore added 15 sen to RM1.30 while PPB Group gained 7 sen to RM7.27.
AMMB rose 6 sen to RM4.76, while Tanjong lost 30 sen to RM15.18. CIMB fell by 28 sen to RM12.50.
Among plantation stocks, IOI Corp lost 8 sen to RM5.44 while Batu Kawan increased 2 sen to RM10.12.
Nymex crude oil in electronic trade was up 20 cents to US$79.75 per barrel.
Spot gold gained 65 cents to US$1,040.70 per ounce.
The ringgit was quoted at 3.409 to the US dollar.
