Malaysian exhibitors close RM151.3m sales in China
NANNING: Malaysian exhibitors concluded sales worth RM151.3mil at the 6th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) which ended Saturday.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) deputy chief executive officer Dr Wong Lai Sum told Malaysian journalists before the closing ceremony of the five-day expo, that “although we could not out-perform last year’s US$103mil sales, we have achieved about 35% of it, despite the global economic slowdown”.
The sales involved products like automotive parts, bird’s nests, electrical appliances, biotech products, food and beverages, cosmetics, fashion accessories, fertilisers, herbal and healthcare products, and water treatment products and services.
However, Wong forsees the 6th CAEXPO will bring a lot of investment to Malaysia as there are many state-owned companies and agencies having shown interest to collaborate with Malaysian companies, especially in the manufacturing sector.
She said some of the provincial governments had shown interest in Malaysia’s environment-friendly products and services like in water treatment and kitchen waste processing.
“Malaysia’s serious effort in this China-Asean event over the last six years have shown results. They (Chinese government) are happy that we are keen to collaborate within the China-Asean framework, and I hope this good relationship will encourage more investment flow into Malaysia,” she added.
Over the last four days, there were about 150 serious business meetings between expo participants from Malaysia and China companies, some of which are big buyers. A buyer, Wong said, had placed an order of 120 containers of food and beverages from one of the Malaysian exhibitors. — Bernama
