It’s confirmed, Hamidy is new CEO of Kuwait Finance House
KUALA LUMPUR: Kuwait Finance House (M) Bhd (KFH Malaysia) has appointed Datuk Seri Abdul Hamidy Abdul Hafiz as its CEO effective today, confirming a StarBiz report.
Datuk Jamelah Jamaluddin, who has helmed the bank since 2010 as the CEO, would now assume the role of managing director of Kuwait Finance House (Labuan) Bhd, KFH Malaysia said in a statement yesterday.
The changes were part of the group's overall strategy to restructure its business, strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by focusing on investment banking and fee-based income. KFH expected to create more synergy at the group level as KFH Malaysia serves as an important hub for the region.
“The appointments are in line with the approach being taken by the KFH group, including at the holding company level in Kuwait Finance House, Kuwait, to restructure and leverage on the distinction between fund-based and fee-based activities and its implications for sound organisational management and leadership whilst maintaining its core banking activities,” it said.
Hamidy, currently a director of KFH Malaysia, has 30 years of experience in the financial industry and will play a pivotal role as the new CEO of the first foreign Islamic Bank in Malaysia. He will maintain a strong focus on the priority areas that Kuwait Finance House K.S.C. has determined and grow KFH Malaysia's banking business and fund-based activities. He was previously the CEO of Affin Bank Bhd and managing director of Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd. Hamidy holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master of business administration from Ohio University.
Jamelah will drive the region's capital market, investment banking and fee-based activities for the group. She had successfully led the team through a challenging period and overseen the beginning of the bank's long-term transformation programme.
“I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to Jamelah for her immense contribution. We trust Hamidi will carry on the on-going activities, strengthen the strategy and propel the bank to greater heights to meet the aspirations of the group,” KFH Malaysia chairman Dr Nabeel Al- Mannae said.
