Swift enhances regional presence with new KL service centre


PETALING JAYA: Financial messaging provider Swift has opened a new corporate services centre in Kuala Lumpur, enhancing its presence in Asia Pacific in line with its regional growth strategy.

The facility, located in Bangsar South, will offer services such as IT development, qualification testing, support, business operations, accounting and finance analysis and transactional functions.

Chief executive for Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa region, Alain Raes, said Swift had been increasing its global marketing presence in Singapore as part of a corporate strategy to grow its footprint in Asia Pacific for the benefit of regional and global customers.

“The new centre is an important milestone for our Asia-Pacific business. We now have a stronger physical presence in the region to support our Asia-Pacific strategic initiatives and to meet the growing needs of our customers and the industry,” he said in a statement.

Multimedia Development Corp chief executive Datuk Badlisham Ghazali commended Swift for its efficiency in setting up the local centre.

“I am really impressed with Swift’s set-up in Kuala Lumpur,” he said, citing the speed at which the organisation took to set things up and running.

He also congratulated the newly hired pool of 31 Malaysians, hand-picked from a pool of 3,000 local applications for a position at the new Swift office.

Swift intends to add internship opportunities to hire more local talents while staff size is expected to grow to 100 in the next three years.

The total number of financial transactions by Swift in Malaysia in 2012 was 17 million.

This year, it aims to increase its transactions to between 18 million and 19 million.

Swift provides financial messaging services to over 10,000 banking organisations, securities institutions and corporate customers in 212 countries and territories.
