Coffee break: Starbucks has opened its first drive-through outlet in Penang. GEORGE TOWN: Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company Sdn Bhd is scouting for good and suitable places on Penang island to set up more Starbucks outlets.
Its managing director Sydney Quays said in an interview that Penang and the northern region were the second largest area of growth after the Klang Valley in terms of revenue contribution and number of outlets.
“This is why we are scouting for good and suitable locations on the island to expand.
“Batu Ferringhi, Green Lane, and Bukit Jambul are areas where we would love to have drive-through outlets,” he said.
He spoke at the new drive-through Starbucks outlet in Tanjung Tokong, which started operations in December 2012.
This latest addition brings the total number of Starbucks outlets in Penang to 16. It is also the fifth drive-through Starbucks outlet in the country after Kuala Lumpur (three outlets), Ipoh (two) and one each in Johor Baru, Manjung, Cameron Highlands and Langkawi.
