Pacific Inter-Link loses appeal
Wilmar's 18.3%-owned associate PPB Group Bhd said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia that the Court of Appeal had unanimously dismissed with costs Pacific Inter-Link's notice of appeal on Thursday, upholding the High Court's decision.
On February 10, the High Court had struck out a close to RM1bil defamation suit initiated by Pacific Inter-Link.
The High Court had ordered Pacific Inter-Link's writ of summons and statement of claim be struck out, with costs to be paid by the latter to all defendants, including Wilmar.
Wilmar's subsidiary, Wilmar Trading Pte Ltd, was one of four named defendants in the suit that had been filed in April last year.
The High Court said the writ of summons and the statement of claim filed by Pacific Inter-Link did not disclose a reasonable or sustainable cause of action and that the cause of action filed was frivolous, scandalous, vexatious and an abuse of the process of the court.
