Focus Point finalising deal in Indonesia
PETALING JAYA: Eyewear-based Focus Point Holdings Bhd is finalising franchising deals in Indonesia as the group seeks to expand its business across South-East Asia.
“Currently, we have already set up three branches in Brunei. We are in the midst of finalising franchise deals in Indonesia,” president of Focus Point Holdings Bhd group Datuk Liaw Choon Liang said after its AGM yesterday.
“We have been in Malaysia for 23 years so our brand is well-known by the people here. For our overseas expansion, we can offer them the business know-how and cheaper rates of exclusive eyewear brands that we carry,” he said.
Ng says Focus Point emphasises more on recruiting franchisees than on the number of outlets it plans to set up Liaw said that the company had some 10% of market share among the retail optical businesses in Malaysia.
Focus Point Vision Care Group chief executive officer Kim Ng said: “We would definitely like to grow our business but we will be very careful in choosing our franchisees. Potential partners must be professional and committed.”
When asked about expansion plans in Malaysia, she said: “ We are cautious as the economy is uncertain and it is competitive in the retail market this year. We are looking at the needs of the market. We will set up new outlets if there are new shopping malls.”
Ng added that the company emphasised more on recruiting franchisees than on the number of outlets it was going to set up.
In response to the tight margin gained, she said: “It is normal to have a single-digit in the retailing business.
“The margin is affected by the cost of rental and staffing. We will work to stretch the margin as the business grows.”
Focus Point, which was listed on the ACE market in 2010, operates a chain of eyewear and eye care products and professional eyecare centres. It also has a food and beverage company.
