Local bourse higher on selective buying

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed higher on continued buying interest in selected blue chips and lower liners.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) rose 4.02 points to 1,577.62.

Turnover was 2.14 billion shares valued at RM1.76bil. There were 314 gainers, 431 losers and 376 stocks unchanged.

Regional stocks closed mixed. Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 12.16 points to 10,141.99 and Singapore Straits Times Index added 12.64 points to 3,002.73.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 227.05 points to 20,888.24 while Jakarta Composite Index shed 2.56 points to 4,022.17.
