Prasarana to award all LRT line extension contracts by end June


PETALING JAYA: Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd hopes to award all LRT Line Extension contracts by the first half of 2012.

Its group director for project development, Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff, said the entire project consisting of the Kelana Jaya line and the Ampang line had a combined total of between 40 to 50 contracts.

To date, about 80 to 90% have been awarded while only two stations and the main depot for the Ampang line were still undergoing the process of tendering, he told reporters here Sunday.

The total value of contracts that have been awarded for both lines currently stands at RM4.5bil.

For the supply of 20 trains for the Ampang line, estimated to be worth RM1bil, the company was presently evaluating seven supply submissions, Zulkifli said.

Trains for the Kelana Jaya line as were ordered last year.

The other system contract yet to be awarded was for electrical and mechanical system works.

"The system side involves installing power supply, track work, signalling and so on. "The system work will come in after the civil work has been completed by the main civil contractors," Zulkifli said.

"We are working hard to keep to this schedule in the interest of the public," he added. - Bernama
