KUALA LUMPUR: There is still no official discussion between DRB-Hicom Bhd and Proton Holdings Bhd for the future plans of the latter, said DRB-Hicom group managing director Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil.

“The meeting is still not done yet.

“By this, whatever news that you have heard relating to Proton is not coming from us but those from outside,” he told reporters yesterday after a signing ceremony.

His comments came in response to rumours in the market that a new chief executive officer would come on board at Proton following DRB-Hicom's acquisition of Khazanah's 42.74% stake in Proton for RM1.29 bil or RM5.50 per share.

Meanwhile DRB-Hicom, through International College of Automotive (ICAM), yesterday signed an international collaborative agreement with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to conduct a 2+1 twinning programme for a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree in Manufacturing Systems Engineering on a franchise basis.

Under the programme, students will complete their initial two years at ICAM before progressing to LJMU in Britain for their final year.

Mohd Khamil said the collaboration was part of a well-planned roadmap that the group had developed to expedite the process of upgrading ICAM to university status.

“By providing quality education that combines knowledge and industry experience, ICAM will move closer to its vision of becoming the leader in automotive education.

“This in turn will support the group's efforts to uplift the whole value chain of the automotive industry,” he said at the signing ceremony. ICAM, which was established in April 2010 at DRB-Hicom Automotive Complex in Pekan, Pahang, currently offers six diploma programmes with another two programmes expected to commence in March.
