Firefly’s new B737-800s to operate from KLIA


PETALING JAYA: Firefly, a Malaysia Airlines wholly-owned unit, will take on 30 B737-800 aircraft from year-end till 2015 as part of its domestic routes expansion plan.

The airline will take delivery of its first B737-800 plane in December and began operations next Janurary from the main terminal building, Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Firefly, which operates turboprops from Subang SkyPark Terminal currently operates seven ATR 75-200s for domestic routes, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, MAS said Firefly would expand its network and operations starting January 15, 2011.

“Phase 1 of the expansion plan, spanning 2011-2015, will bring into service up to 30 jet aircraft, with a total of 6 aircraft being operated by end 2011.

“Firefly’s expansion is part of MAS’ strategy in growing its network and building capacity, in line with its Business Transformation Plan,” it said in the statement.
