MAS to acquire some Transmile base ops
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is proposing to acquire Transmile Group Bhd’s base maintenance and engineering capabilities including two hangars with equipment as well as employing the latter’s manpower at its Subang base.
MAS said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia that a letter of intent was signed yesterday.
The airline said upon completion of the acquisition, its subsidiary Malaysian Aerospace Engineering Sdn Bhd (MAE) was expected to have the largest airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region with eight hangars and the capacity to accommodate 28 wide-body and narrow-body aircraft at any one time.
“The projected 15% increase in additional capacity will contribute towards MAE’s growth plans and give it better economies of scale,” MAS said.
It added that the additional capacity would also serve MAE well as it actively pursued third-party MRO businesses with a target revenue of RM500mil this year.
