Report: Macau's ex-consumer chief commits suicide
HONG KONG: Macau's former consumer chief has committed suicide during an ongoing corruption probe, Hong Kong media reported Wednesday.
Alexandre Ho, who was also a former lawmaker, was found hanged in a hotel room in the coastal Chinese city of Zhuhai near Macau on Sunday, the South China Morning Post newspaper cited his younger sister as saying.
Ho was removed as president of Macau's Consumer Council eight months ago amid a graft scandal.
He led the council for about 20 years.
Ho, 62, was accused of abusing his power to help a relative win construction works and purchase contracts totaling 6 million patacas ($751,438) since 2004, according to the Commission Against Corruption of Macau.
No charges have been filed.
A spokeswoman for the Macau government could not immediately be reached for comment. - AP
