Honda confident of 35,000 car sales

PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia is confident of achieving its sales target of 35,000 cars this year, says managing director and chief executive officer Toru Takahashi.

“Despite the gloomy economic environment, we are still upbeat about our sales with a 50% contribution by the City model,” he said at the launch of “The Perfectionists – Presented Exclusively by Accord” campaign yesterday.

The campaign was held in conjunction with the release of the new variant to the 8th Generation Accord range, the Accord 2.0 VTi-L in Taffeta White.

Takahashi said the recent announcement by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) was a reason to be optimistic about sales growth.

The MAA has revised upwards its industry sales forecast for this year to 500,000 vehicles from 480,000 as economic conditions and consumer sentiment improve.

On competition, Takahashi said it was still very strong. “We are trying to activate our brand image and take care of our customers,” he added.

On the Accord 2.0 VTi-L, the assistant to Honda managing director for sales and marketing department/sales division, Go Suzuki, said the car was a flagship model and therefore, very important to the company.

The Accord 2.0 VTi-L is an enhanced variant that was officially launched on July 15.

So far, the sales momentum of the 8th Generation Accord has been good with 10,000 units sold.

Honda Malaysia is aiming to sell 6,000 units of the car annually. — Bernama
