Lenovo seeks stronger presence in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Computer maker Lenovo Group aims to open two new concept stores and 30 “multibrand corners” in Malaysia by next March, as part of plans to strengthen its retail presence and distribution network.
The group is looking at areas around central Klang Valley as well as major cities such as Penang and Johor, according to Howie Lau, Lenovo (S) Pte Ltd general manager and executive director for Asean region.
“However, we have yet to finalise our plans,” he told reporters after the launch of its two new concept stores at Low Yat Plaza yesterday.
»We hope the new concept stores would give customers a full product experience « HOWIE LAU “We hope the new concept stores would give customers a full product experience where they can touch and feel as well as understand the products better before making any purchases.”
The Lenovo concept stores feature globally consistent look-and-feel decor with bold colours and open spaces, while multi-brand corners are exclusive areas within large IT chains dedicated to Lenovo products.
According to Lau, Malaysia is an emerging market with a relatively low penetration rate for personal computers and therefore plenty opportunities for growth.
“We will be addressing the growth potential in the small and medium business, and consumer segments by strengthening (our) offerings in these segments,” he said. “We will work closely with our business partners to serve the small and medium business segment in Malaysia.”
Lenovo currently has three concept stores in Low Yat Plaza and one in Mid Valley Megamall as well as 10 multi-brand corners nationwide.
Meanwhile, Lenovo Malaysia country manager of consumer business Eric Zhao said the group had seen good take-up of its mini netbooks as well as personal computers with entertainment features.
