LG sees higher mobile phone revenue
KUALA LUMPUR: LG Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd expects its mobile phone division to account for 50% of revenue next year from 35% currently.
Managing director Ko Tae Yeon said its mobile phone division was currently the largest revenue contributor while its liquid crystal display televisions contributed about 25% to revenue. Last year, LG posted a revenue of US$170mil (RM650mil).
LG also hoped to increase its market share in the local mobile phone industry to 10% this year from 6% last year, Ko said yesterday after launching the company’s new mobile phone – LG Arena KM900.
Priced at RM1,899, the phone is equipped with LG’s new innovative and dynamic 3D S-Class user interface.
Ko said the LG Arena KM900 offered a range of multimedia capabilities including the Dolby Mobile 2.0 giving users a richer sound quality for listening to music or watching videos. He added that its new phone, targeted at mid-high end group, was the industry’s first phone equipped with this audio processing technology platform.
“We are targeting to sell more than 40,000 units of this phone this year. We will continue to launch S-Class user interface mobile phones as we believe this is the way forward,” he added.
