Carmaker to maintain performance

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia Sdn Bhd wants to perform as well this year as it did the year before, sales and marketing director Greg Bosnich said.

“We are looking to maintain what we achieved in 2008,” he told StarBiz.

The company sold over 560 units last year. Its best seller was the Volvo S40, with over 200 units sold.

Priced at RM169,950 (on-the-road without insurance), the S40 was the entry model into the Volvo brand and hence was the most popular choice among first-time Volvo customers, Bosnich said.

“Customers usually purchase the S40 when they buy their first Volvo. Once they have experienced the brand, the dealership services and the affordable maintenance, they are likely to move on to other, more expensive models,” he said.

Bosnich said it was a misconception that Volvo cars were high maintenance. He cited a recent report by The Star that the Sabah government was replacing part of its Proton Perdana official cars with Volvo cars because the latter was cheaper to maintain.

Bosnich said the Sabah government had already taken some Volvo cars and discussions were ongoing for the supply of more cars.

He also said the company was planning to set up its first 3S (sales, service and spare parts) centre in Kota Kinabalu.
