Jim Kelly to step down from Time Inc.
NEW YORK (AP) - Jim Kelly, a 30-year veteran of Time Inc., will be stepping down from his post as managing editor April 1, the company said Friday.
Kelly was named in 2006 to the position in charge of editorial standards, ethics and practices for the entire company after spending five years as top editor at Time magazine.
He joined Time in 1978 and will remain a consultant.
"What Jim will always be remembered for was the way he so skillfully guided Time magazine through 9/11 and the ensuing wars that occurred on his watch as managing editor," John Huey, Time Inc.'s top editorial executive, said in a statement.
"He was a very successful editor of that magazine during an important, difficult time, and he has the awards to show for it."
Daniel Okrent, a former New York Times public editor and outside consultant to Huey, will take over standards and practices for the company, which is a unit of Time Warner Inc. and also publishes People magazine, Sports Illustrated and Fortune.
