TM to deploy cable on Nov 10
KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s Asia America Gateway (AAG) will be deployed on Nov 10.
TM Global executive vice-president Mohamad Rozaimy Abd Rahman said the deployment of the AAG was earlier scheduled for August.
The first high-bandwidth optical fibre submarine cable system will connect 10 locations in eight countries across the Asia-Pacific region, namely Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Guam and Hawaii with the US West Coast.
The 20,000km-long cable system will have a capacity of 480 Gigabits per second to meet present and future requirements for telecommunications services.
“It has actually been completed and tested. We have also finalised a lot of things and it will be commercially viable on Nov 10.
“The AAG is only one of the first. We are not stoping here. We are also looking at the Asia- Pacific Gateway (APG) to sustain demand.
“The 8,000-km cable system, which will be a vital link towards existing cable systems in the region, is expected to be completed in 2011,” Rozaimy said on the sidelines of the Capacity Asia Conference here. — Bernama
