Telco expects Internet to be key growth driver with the new service
PETALING JAYA: DiGi.Com Bhd, which has introduced the Turbo 3G service for mobile phones in the Klang Valley, expects Internet to be its key growth driver in two years, said chief executive officer Johan Dennelind.
He said with the latest offering, the telco now offered complete Internet services, from broadband to WiFi, to its customers.
“We are pleased with the steady progress we have made. We are ambitious yet realistic in addressing coverage without compromising on our quality of service,” he said at the launch of Turbo 3G yesterday.
Under the Turbo 3G banner, DiGi is offering customers the Internet Unlimited Max 5 service for its prepaid customers. The service offers unlimited Internet acccess on the phone for only RM5 per day.

Dennelind said the latest service was also available in Penang and Kota Kinabalu, besides the Klang Valley.
Going forward, DiGi will extend the service to Ipoh, Kuching and Johor Baru.
“We hope to cover 50% of Malaysia by next year,” he said.
So far, DiGi’s coverage of 59% of the Klang Valley population was well ahead of its targeted 44% as had been planned for the next three years, he said.
To a question, Dennelind said he was unperturbed that DiGi was the last entrant to the 3G spectrum.
“Sometimes, it’s not bad to be late as shown by our offerings. We can provide a better experience to customers compared with our competitors.
“We believe we started off on the right foot with a winning proposition for broadband which has been very well received,” he said.
DiGi currently has close to 30,000 broadband subscribers since the service was launched in March this year.
Dennelind estimated that the company would receive RM40mil revenue contribution from the Internet segment this year even if it were to sit idle and not launch new products and services.
He said DiGi would spend RM300mil to RM400mil per annum on its 3G infrastructure over the next three years beginning this year.
In conjunction with the launch, DiGi is giving away RM1mil worth of discounted Internet gadgets and access rebates at the DiGi Internet Bonanza roadshow at 1 Utama Shopping Complex.
The roadshow, which started yesterday, will be held until Nov 15.
