Dell looks to growth from services division
KUALA LUMPUR: The world's second largest personal computer maker, Dell, expects double digit growth in its services division's contribution to revenue over the next two to three years.
This would be largely driven by the acquisition of Perot Systems,a US-based IT services company.
Dell Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd, enterprise director, Enterprise Systems Group Raymond Victor said there had been an increase in demand for information technology (IT) services, particularly from small and medium businesses (SMBs) globally including Malaysia.
"Last year, the company posted revenue of US$61 billion, of which 10 percent was contributed by the services division. The recent acquisition is timely with the company's future plan to expand the services division " he said at a media briefing here on Wednesday.
According to Dell's recent survey, about 85 percent of SMBs do not have dedicated IT personnel.
IT services among others includes consultation services, managed services and support maintenance.
"We recognise services as a key area of the company's future growth. We expect this division to likely be, a key performer moving forward," Raymond said.
Dell is acquiring Perot Systems for US$3.9 billion.
The company provides IT services and business solutions to customers, mostly in the healthcare, government and banking industry.
On another note, Dell today launched new products and services that specially cater to the needs of SMBs in terms of simplifying operations, reducing downtime, enhancing information security and reducing operating costs.
The new portfolio includes four 11th Generation Dell PowerEdge servers, LifeCycle Controller 1.2 embedded systems management and the PowerVault NX300 network attached storage device.
Besides that, it has also introduced three new Vostro model laptops, targeted at SMBs that want a product priced below RM2,000. The new solutions and services are available through Dell or any of the company's more than 50,00 global channel partners in 148 countries. - BERNAMA
